SHINing Japan

When we landed at the Tokyo International Airport at around 11pm on the 23rd of last month, I immediately felt a massive wave of adrenaline rushing through my whole body. My heart was beating fast at the sheer amount of excitement and nervousness I was feeling right that instance. While the other passengers were busy rummaging through the overhead compartments to get their luggage, I was busy looking out of the small window beside me in awe. I was mostly staring at a handful of parked airplanes, luggage carts and construction vehicles, as well as the huge “Tokyo International Airport” neon sign that was displayed with pride up on the airport building, but that didn’t stop me from smiling to myself and heaving a small sigh of content.
I was in Japan.
Immigration was a breeze. I wrote “concert” as the purpose of visit on the immigration form we received on the plane. We initially wanted to put down “tourism” or something similar, but knowing how strict and specific Japan customs was, and wanting to avoid as many questions as possible, we decided to go ahead with “concert”. It was after all, the initial main reason for our trip to the land of the rising sun.

September was a very interesting month for me. It was busy, it was fun, it was memorable.
Early that month, I experienced my first moshpit concert with SHINee at the SHINee World Concert. It was, of course, nothing like the moshpits at rock concerts. There weren’t really any moshing. I didn’t get kicked, or slammed, or have beer splashed onto me. The moshpits at the SHINee World Concert were basically just free standing areas. I did get myself squashed against the barrier a couple of times, though. Yes, I was in the first row! It took no easy job to have the opportunity to be standing in the first row to enjoy the concert up-close, though. We queued for 3 days straight, took shifts to camp overnight, and also had to fight for our spots with a handful of queue-jumpers!
The concert was superbly amazing! The performance was top notch, and we had the chance to see the comical side of the boys while they ran around the stage during the encore, goofing around and playing with water. I managed to get a few interactions with them too!
